Daniel P. Doiron

Principal

Dan Doiron joined ARB in 1986 as a college intern. He has been a principal with the firm since 1996. Dan’s career focus is in providing financial accounting, income tax planning and compliance, and business advisory services to businesses, private clients and family offices, individuals, trusts, estates, and private foundations. He is the Practice Leader for both ARB’s Tax Group and Private Client Team.

  • State of Maine Gold Medalist for earning the highest scores on all four parts of the May 1987 CPA Examination

Personal

Dan resides in the vibrant Town of Brunswick, Maine. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and trying to live a well-balanced life.

Dan works extensively with corporations, partnerships, and LLCs on tax compliance and planning matters. He has also structured business acquisitions and business sales from a tax perspective. Dan has developed and taught seminars on various tax topics. His insight has been sought by local television news shows, where he has appeared for interviews with respect to accounting and tax matters.

As the Practice Leader of ARB’s Private Client Team, Dan serves several of New England’s affluent families and individuals, closely-held business owners, and venture capital and private equity investors. He collaborates with family offices, attorneys, wealth advisors, and insurance specialists to facilitate solutions to complex family tax issues and provides tax planning services. Dan works closely with clients to achieve their goals of leaving a legacy through trust creation, family foundations, and strategic generational wealth transfers. He assists our family office clients with “fund of funds” family investment partnerships and performs agreed-upon procedures and operational review engagements designed to strengthen internal controls and provide peace of mind to family members.

In working with private clients and family offices, Dan has developed a true understanding of the intricacies of navigating accounting and tax services for businesses with family dynamics. His expertise allows him to provide services of the highest degree that are beneficial for businesses and their shareholders, partners, members, and related ventures, trusts, and estates, alike.  

Dan has navigated the complexities of fiduciary income taxation. He has experience with grantor trusts, complex trusts, simple trusts, charitable trusts, intentionally defective grantor trusts, ESBTs, QSSTs, and many other varieties of trusts. He leads the ARB Tax Group in estate and gift tax planning matters and assists in the development of plans to minimize taxes through trusts, family limited partnerships, gifting, and other tax strategies.

Dan assists private foundations in the preparation of Form 990-PF, bookkeeping and investment accounting services, qualified distribution planning, expenditure responsibility reporting, and planning and projections. He provides advisory services and assists in avoiding various prohibited transactions applicable to private foundations.
