IRS Extends Tax Relief to Maine Taxpayers Affected by Severe Storms and Flooding (UPDATED April 9, 2024)

In response to severe storms and flooding in Maine, the IRS and Maine Department of Revenue Services has announced significant tax relief measures for individuals and businesses in affected counties.

Federal and Maine deadlines have been extended to June 17 for eligible taxpayers in the following Maine counties:

  • Androscoggin
  • Aroostook
  • Kennebec
  • Oxford
  • Penobscot
  • Piscataquis
  • Somerset

Federal and Maine (UPDATED April 9, 2024) deadlines have been extended to July 15 for eligible taxpayers in these counties:

  • Cumberland
  • Hancock
  • Knox
  • Lincoln
  • Sagadahoc
  • Waldo
  • Washington
  • York

These extensions apply to both filings and making payments and cover 2023 balances that remain due as well as the first and second quarters of 2024. By extending tax deadlines, waiving penalties and interest, and offering guidance on document recovery, the IRS is assisting affected individuals and businesses in managing their tax responsibilities during this challenging period.
